Design #1: Star

Press the pencil gently enough to make a mark. To be able to erase some parts at the end.

  1. Built a square ABCD of side 12 cm.
  2. In the middle of the line segment:
    • [AB] is I.
    • [BC] is J.
    • [CD] is K.
    • [AD] is L.
  3. Draw the line segment [AJ], [AK], [AC], [BL], [BK], [BD], [CI], [CL], [DJ], [DI], [IK] and [JL].
  4. Erase the redish broken lines.
  5. Choose 3 colours and let’s paint!

Design #3: Infinite Squares

  1. Built a square ABCD of side 10 cm.

  2. Locate:

    • the point a on the side [AB] such that Aa=1cm.

    • the point b on the side [BC] such that Bb=1cm.

    • the point c on the side [CD] such that Cc=1cm.

    • the point d on the side [AD] such that Dd=1cm.

  3. Join [AB], [BC], [CD] and [AD].

  4. Locate:

    • the point e on the side [ab] such that ae=1cm.

    • the point f on the side [bc] such that bf=1cm.

    • the point g on the side [cd] such that cg=1cm.

    • the point h on the side [ad] such that dh=1cm.

  5. Join [ef], [fg], [gh] and [he].

  6. Do the same for the other squares mnpq, EFGH, MNPQ and urst (see other pictures).

  7. Choose a gradation of some colour or just 2 colours and let’s paint!

Have fun! Try to change the gap (1/2 inch; 1 inch; 0,5 cm; 2 cm…). Try to change the direction of the rotation.

Design Halloween: Spider Web

  1. Built a square ABCD of side 12 cm. Draw its diagonals [AC] et [BD].
  2. Place:
    • I in the middle of the line segment [AB]
    • J in the middle of [BC]
    • K in the middle of [CD]
    • L in the middle of [DA].
    • Then draw the line segment [IK] and [JL].
  3. Place:
    • M in the middle of the line segment [AI] and Q in the middle of [KC]. Draw the line segment [MQ].
    • N in the middle of the line segment [IB] and R in the middle of [DK]. Draw the line segment [NR].
    • O in the middle of the line segment [BJ] and S in the middle of [LD]. Draw the line segment [OS].
    • Place P in the middle of the line segment [JC] and T in the middle of [AL]. Draw the line segment [PT].
  4. Through J, find the perpendicular segment of [OS], which cuts [OS] at U. Draw the line segment [JU].
  5. Through U, find the perpendicular segment of [BD], which cuts [BD] at V. Draw the line segment [UV].
  6. Go on, always in the same direction.
  7. Do the same perpendicular line drawing from I, L then K by turning always in the same direction.
