The Function Room with Colm O’Regan: Maths of Climate Change
October 21, 2021 @ 20:00 - 21:00
This enormous topic, we hear it everywhere. The arguments rage around us. As we oscillate between doubt, despair, small bits of hope and back to doubt, it can be hard to find out what to grab onto.
We might rewild a lawn, eat more chickpeas and grow an onion but we feel a helplessness.
Don’t worry. It’s literally a planet sized problem. A giant cloudy, stormy, heaty, iceberg one. But it might help to have some sense of the maths and the physics that underpins this. Just for something to grab onto!
Join comedian, writer and maths podcaster and now climate worrier Colm O’Regan as he chats to one of the authorities in this area Professor Chris Budd OBE of the University of Bath, where he is Professor of Applied Mathematics and Director of the Centre of Nonlinear Mechanics. He has a long history of engagement in the public understanding of science and mathematics through institutions such as the Royal Institution and the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.
Register now- this is an event not to be missed!
