Nelo Alberto Maestre Blanco

Mathematician

Graduated in Mathematical Sciences in 2006 by the UCM, lecturer with stage experience, disseminator and teacher trainer. His entire professional career has developed halfway between mathematics and magic.  He started in the world of illusionism in 1998. Since then he has participated in all kinds of events, both for the general public and for important companies such as Mapfre, HP, Yahoo, BBVA, Vodafone... and many others. He was the star of the theatrical show Magical, which toured the Spanish geography for more than 3 years, and the magician of the programme "Comecaminos" on Televisión Española for two seasons.  In 2010 he was awarded in the category of parlour magic at the XXX National Congress of Magic held in La Coruña. Nowadays he continues in the world of magic, both on stage and collaborating in several research groups on this artistic discipline. He is currently working on the show "Uncertainty" where, through powerful magical effects, he gives us a glimpse of the history of mathematics and its characters, trying to find some order in chaos.  In the field of mathematics and popularisation, he began to stand out very early on, winning the "Puig Adam" prize for problem solving in 1997 and first prize in the Young Researchers Competition organised by Injuve and the Ministry of Education in 1998, among others.  Since finishing his studies at the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences at the UCM in 2006, he has been giving lectures, seminars and teacher training courses where he applies his knowledge of communication and stage concepts to the teaching of mathematics.  In 2011 she founded the DIVERMATES project, specifically dedicated to bringing mathematics in a fun way, taking it to schools and giving another point of view on mathematics to more than 15,000 students every year. Around this project, he has developed content for textbooks, conferences, workshops, and has participated in many outreach and teacher training events, such as Science Week, the Autumn University, the JAEM and the CIBEM.  He has been a professor of the ESTALMAT project of the RSME since 2013, and professor of Didactics of Mathematics at the Faculty of Education of the UCM since 2019.  He is the author of the book "This is not the title of this book", published in 2023 by Shakelton Books.  Contact: nelomaestre@divermates.es
