Squirrel! Game
Squirrel! is a fun learning game for 1st & 2nd classes, highlighting the benefits of saving.
Skills: counting, money sense, chance
Resources needed: printed templates (dice and surprise cards. 1 set for each group), acorns (or counters, beans, tokens…), cup for each player (or plate or other container), a big container for all the acorns for each group
Activity: The aim of the game is to gather acorns to survive the winter. Pupils will throw the dice as many times as they want and decide when to stop and save their resources. On some faces they earn acorns, in other they have to share and one will make them lose all they unsaved acorns! Be careful not to be too greedy! “Lose all unsaved acorns” will end a players go.
Duration: Variable – you can decide on a target or set a time.
We recommend not to have more than 4 players in a group. We have different dice to play with. Print the dice on card so it is more resistant.
We recommend you emphasise that when players gain or receive acorns, they are unsaved on the table. ONLY when they end voluntarily their turn, they can bank them and put them safely in their cup.
Have a look at the full instruction and templates sample. Download the full pack at the bottom of the page.
Animated instructions saved as a power point will help you clearly explain the rules to your class.
