Shopping Spraoi! Game
Shopping Spraoi! is a maths learning game designed for 5th & 6th classes.
Skills: counting, money sense, Arithmetic Operations (+ – x / )
Resources needed: printed templates (48 Payment Cards, 56 Shopping Cards)
Activity: The aim of the game is to cumulate points by buying items or saving. Pupils will draw 1 payment card and decide want they want to buy from the shop. The game has been design in two parts. The first part is to understand the basics of the game, you can run one or two turns. You can have a little chat on what they buy. Then the second part introduces savings and families of items for a more complex game. The most important part will be the discussion you will have with them at the end about how everyone spent their money. What can this game help us learn about Money Sense? Is it a good idea to save? Is it better to please ourselves now or save for later? Did you spend most of the amount on the payment card? How much was left each time?…
Tá na hacmhainní ar fáil i nGaeilge thíos chomh maith.
Duration: ~20 min per game with all the cards
We recommend 3-6 players in a group. If you have group of 5 or 6, we suggest to introduce a ‘shopkeeper’. The shopkeeper will have the mission to ensure the shop has always 4 items displayed and that the players have enough money in their payment card(s) to buy the wanted item(s). The shopkeeper will have this mission for a turn. When it is to the shopkeeper to play is turn, the last player will become the shopkeeper for 1 turn. So the shopkeeper changes during the game, and everyone can play the game.
