Maths Week TV returns with online live events for primary and secondary pupils. The line up will include some of our favourite presenters with some exciting new talent.

Pre-school

Preschool, junior and senior infant / Year 1 and 2, you are invited to join master storyteller, Steve Sherman, the Chief Imagination Officer of Livingmaths.com for Maths Story adventure. The sessions will run from 9:00am to 9:30am from Monday 14 October to Friday 18 October.

In this talk, Professor Chris Budd, University of Bath, will describe how climate change models work and the assumptions that go into them. He will discuss how reliable our predictions of climate change are, and show how mathematicians can give us insights into both past and future.

TY and senior cycle / Year 12-14

Very few people associate The Simpsons with mathematics, but if you look closely at the episodes there is plenty of mathematics to be found. In her presentation, Zoe Griffiths will touch on a number of different higher level areas of mathematics, while illustrating that an understanding of mathematics will be an asset in any career.

Ben is a mathematician, musician, and public speaker. He gives maths talks and workshops around the world, to students, teachers, and the general public. He is a former secondary maths teacher. He now regularly performs live with the Maths Inspiration and MathsFest projects, and works regularly with the Numberphile YouTube channel. He also runs his own YouTube channel, SparksMaths.

Chris Budd OBE, is based at the University of Bath, where he is Professor of Applied Mathematics and Director of the Centre of Nonlinear Mechanics. He has a long history of engagement in the public understanding of science and mathematics through institutions such as the Royal Institution and the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications. Professor Budd was awarded an OBE in 2015 for services to science and mathematics education.
