A square tile nd other shapes for instance can form a repeating or periodic pattern. If it is aperiodic, the shapes can fill the surface, but they can never form a repeating pattern. In 2022 such a tile - the hat tile- was discovered by David Smith. Chaim Goodman Strauss was one of the mathematicians that proved it was aperiodic. <\/p><p class=\"mcePastedContent\">More recently, <em>Chair44<\/em> was announced as the first true three-dimensional aperiodic monotile discovered and its mathematical properties written up entirely by a large language model (LLM).
