Ada Lovelace Day

Ada Lovelace (1815-1852) was an English mathematician, educated privately by tutors and helped in her advanced studies by Augustus De Morgan, the first professor of Mathematics at the University of London. Lovelace was introduced to Charles Babbage, who was credited for achieving the first automatic digital computer, by their mutual friend. While working with Babbage, Lovelace was dubbed as the first computer programmer for her work on Babbage’s prototype. The early programming language “Ada” was named after her.

Founded in 2009, Ada Lovelace Day was created in her commemoration and takes place on the second Tuesday of October. It is an international celebration of the achievements of women in STEM. The day aims to increase the profile of Women in STEM and create new role models for the future generation of females.
