Maths Week is approaching!

Dear Maths Friends,

Summer’s lease hath all too short a date

This feels as true now as when Shakespeare wrote it over 400 years ago. But hopefully you are recharged by the sunniest summer in years.

Recently the A-level, GCSE and Leaving Certificate results came out, the fruition of long years of preparation by students and teachers and we wish all the students the best in their next phases.

Happy Birthday to the IMS which is celebrating 50 years at their annual meeting that starts tomorrow.

Maths Ireland Blogs were started 10 years ago by Prof Colm Mulcahy with the ambition of having a blog every month celebrating Irish mathematicians. There are 80 blogs available covering a range of most counties on the island. The most recent blog (July) accounts for over 100 Irish maths/physics graduates, especially those pre-2000, who ended up with careers in the Irish Met Office .

The Maths Week posters are being printed at present and will soon be on their way to all schools on the island.

Maths Week posters are here! Our team has created posters for Junior Primary, Senior Primary, Junior Secondary, and Senior Secondary around Maths. These will be sent out to all the schools in Ireland and are a great resource to introduce your class to Maths concepts. Further activities relating to the posters can be found on our website, make sure to check them out.

Irish Maths Society Meeting

26-28 August | Trinity College Dublin

The annual meeting of the Irish Mathematical Society (IMS) will be hosted by the School of Mathematics at Trinity College Dublin on 26-28 August. This marks the 50th Anniversary of IMS.

IMTA is holding its annual conference in the Tullamore Court Hotel. There will be the usual range of keynote speakers, workshops and display stands. Among the speakers is the very popular Craig Barton of MrBartonMaths.com

26 September | Lisburn

NIMTA is holding its second conference on 26th September in Lisburn, aimed at Post Primary Maths teachers. In addition to the keynote presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to attend two or three workshops (approximately 40-45 minutes each) led by local teachers and educators.

Attendees interested in attending the conference can learn more on the NIMTA Facebook Page. If you have developed your practice or learnt something helpful in recent years, you can also register your interest in leading a workshop.
