Fold your sheet in half and cut it in the centre, into two rectangles.
Pick one of the two pieces and fold it in half again.
Now hold your paper with the closed edge facing you.
Cut two short parallel lines, and then two more beside them, or as many as you’d like (but always in pairs). Have a look at the pictures for reference.
Open your sheet and fold your stripes back to the centre to create a sort of “step”.
Draw your background and add some greetings.
On the other piece of paper, draw as many characters as you like. They will be placed in your special pop-up card.
Glue your characters on the “steps” and fold your card again.
To add a special touch, you can glue your pop-up card on a piece of colored paper, in this way you cannot see your cuts anymore from the outside, and all the WOW-effect is hidden inside.

Pop-up are techniques used to animate paper and books. They literally make pictures moves and stand out. The word “pop-up” is also used in computer science. Pop-ups on a website are special windows that suddenly appear. They are used to advise, warn or attract attention.
