Booking opening on 24th September for RIA Maths lecture: The Hamilton Lecture 2009 "Noncommutative Algebra : from Hamilton to our time" The Royal Irish Academy commemorates "Hamilton Day" on the 16th October every year. RIA president, William Rowan Hamilton discovered Quaternions on this day in 1843 while walking to a meeting of the society. This year's Hamilton lecture is by distinguished matematician and Fields Medal winner Professor Efim Zelmanov of the University of California, San Diego. The venue is the Burke Theatre TCD and the time is (Friday 16 October 2009) 7.30pm.
