Hamilton Lecture 2009 - "Noncommutative Algebra : from Hamilton to our time"

This is a broad survey of ideas and directions in the study of finite and infinite groups and finite and infinite dimensional algebras. Professor Zelmanov is one of the world's leading group theorists. His most striking work was to elucidate the structure of Jordan algebras, the heart of Jordan's attempt to describe quantum mechanics. Zelmanov's deep analysis led to his solution of the classic "restricted Burnside problem" in group theory, for which he received the Fields Medal in 1994.

Speaker: Professor Efim Zelmanov, University of California, San Diego

Date: Friday 16 October 2009, 7.30pm
Venue: Burke Lecture Theatre, Trinity College Dublin

Admission is free. Booking is essential through RIA website
